Hello! I'm Jenna, from Billings, Montana. This is my little space where I write about my adventures, challenges, and anything else that happens to be on my mind!
In 2011 I was stuck. Stuck in a job I hated and a life direction I was not excited about. I had just finished a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and had started my new job at a rehab facility. They showed me to my desk at a tiny cubicle, handed me a stack of paperwork and wished me luck. I barely lasted three weeks.
When I left, I knew it was more than just a temporary break. I’d been unhappy for so long I decided to pursue a career where I could be creative and travel the world. I made a list of job ideas and narrowed it down based on three criteria:
- I wasn’t going back to school (I already had about $40k worth of student loans).
- I wasn’t moving (I loved Montana, my family is here, my husband’s family is here, we LOVE it here)!
- I had to cross anything off the list I couldn’t physically do (like becoming a professional ballet dancer with 0 dance experience).
In the end, I had four options to choose from: writer, musician, cake decorator and photographer. On a whim, I chose photographer. I didn’t even own a camera.
I started shooting families and weddings, and soon began experimenting with underwater photography. Underwater photo gear was expensive though, so instead of buying the newest thing, I built my own. Within a few years I was traveling the globe to shoot everything from swimwear campaigns to water conservation projects. You can listen to my TEDx talk on the subject below!
Fast forward to today and my husband and I have two beautiful daughters who have collected quite a few passport stamps of their own. We travel as a family, and everything we’ve learned along the way, I write about it. From the mistakes I’ve made (like flying with 7 bags, 2 cats and a toddler), to what to pack and what to leave behind, it’s all here!
Deep down, I’m a hippie at heart with a soft spot for conservation, animal rights and really all of humanity. When I’m not shooting or cuddled up with my family, I’m either out for a run, making a mess in the kitchen or taking on a ridiculous project I definitely do not have time for. But hey, if it’s going to make the world a better place, it’s worth the extra hours, right?
If you have any questions or would like to work together feel free to shoot me an email at email@example.com, I’d be happy to hear from you!
