“In Bloom” Floral Double Exposures

double exposures

I love double exposures. They’re like a puzzle that has a million different ways of fitting together. Find that perfect combination and you’re rewarded with something extra special.

This last winter was pretty rough, and I definitely needed something a little extra special. I won’t get into details here, but like so many others I found myself craving the feeling of warm sunshine like never before. I was wearing shorts in February folks, simply as an open boycott of winter. I was done. Wind and snow and negative temperatures could come, my winter wardrobe was shoved to the back of the closet and I’d be wearing flip-flops from here on out. I was going to force my way into summer, whether Mother Earth liked it or not.

I needed to be surrounded by cheerfulness and green, so when a local boutique downtown asked me to put something together for their May 1st Grand Opening, I thought these double exposures would be a perfect fit. Flowers for all! I headed down to my local greenhouse with a couple of my favorite models, and a white board to get a clean background. Then we just wondered around and had a blast experimenting with double exposures!

Like every time I work with double exposures, some are hits and some are wild misses. Of the hundreds of photos I took that day, these ten are some of my favorite results. If you’ve never played with double exposures, I’d highly recommend it! They can be the perfect thing to break you out of a dreary slump. Hope you like them!
